AT&T to buy Time Warner for $85 billion

October 24, 2016 AT&T reached an agreement to buy Time Warner for $85.4 billion. Including debt, the value grows to $108.7 billion. The deal combines the nation’s largest pay-TV provider and second largest wireless carrier with the largest entertainment company.

Viacom, DirecTV Now Sign Carriage Pact

AT&T’s pending over-the-top service DirecTV Now continues to add content partners, signing a carriage agreement with Viacom that will include a dozen of the programmer’s cable networks including MTV, Comedy Central and VH1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Other Viacom networks included in the agreement are CMT, Logo, BET, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nick Jr.

AT&T to launch streaming video service this year

AT&T is expected to launch its DirecTV Now video streaming service within the next three months. CEO Randall Stephenson told a group of investors that DirecTV Now will be available this year with “very aggressive price points,” according to CNET.

CWA Members Approve New AT&T Mobility Contract

AT&T Mobility workers across the country voted to ratify a new contract covering health care and other benefits for 42,000 workers. CWA District 1 Vice President Dennis Trainor said, “Our main goal was to put health care benefits bargaining back in the regional bargaining agreement process and to make health care affordable for all Mobility workers.

AT&T National Internet Contract CWA AT&T Internet members at the Metairie, La., NIC Call Center join mobilization training. CWA members voted an overwhelming 92 percent “YES” to authorize a strike if a fair contract can’t be reached with AT&T Internet. The 2,000 Internet Services Contract members work at call centers, supporting customers, and as technicians.
